Jobs
It has been said that the greatest social program is a job. José Evans is a businessman who knows how to grow companies and create jobs. He led Mayor Bart Peterson's Office of Minority Business Development and has a plan to put Indianapolis back to work. In Washington, politicians bail out the big banks to the tune of $700 billion while they leave working and middle class Americans behind. Here in Indianapolis, politicians are too pre-occupied with giving sweetheart deals and tax breaks to wealthy downtown businesses even as our neighborhoods are declining and our people are out of work. José believes we must invest in retaining the jobs we have, and be aggressive in seeking new jobs and new businesses for all of our residents. As mayor, he will work with all organizations to ensure we have ample training opportunities available for those out of work, and looking to move up in their field. He will work with the private sector on innovative approaches to put Indianapolis on the cutting edge in retaining and creating jobs for future generations. If you are looking for politics as usual, José is not your candidate. But, if you are looking for a new approach to leadership - one that focuses as much on revitalizing our neighborhoods and creating jobs as we do about revitalizing downtown - we hope you will join the campaign to bring real change to city hall.
Education
Our President stated “One of the best anti-poverty programs is a world class education” – and José whole-heartedly agrees. A well educated workforce is essential to the future of our communities. José knows first-hand the value of an education and how it can level the playing field. Indianapolis has provided him with a first rate education, a beautiful family, and the opportunity to serve. He wants to make sure that every opportunity this city has awarded him is available to every young person for years to come. Education will be a top priority for his administration. He will be a partner with our public and private schools and work to create a system of inclusion with regards to our school system and the citizens it serves.
Public Safety
The primary goal of government is to protect the people in which they serve. As mayor, José vows to take a proactive approach towards addressing local crime. His administration will not only work with top level public safety advisors, but will solicit the help of neighborhood organizations to take ownership, share ideas, and tackle the tough issues. By including citizens in the issues that matter most, we are adding transparency to a system whose only mission is to serve.
Neighborhood Development
As a City-County Councillor José fought hard to make sure our neighborhoods were never left out of the long term vision of Indianapolis. Once elected Mayor he will not lose that focus. Citizen engagement is key to any municipal success, and he believes citizens should have the loudest voice when it comes to their city. Improving the condition of roads, sidewalks, trees, parks and libraries are essential to the overall development of this great city.
